Interaction among Biotic Components

Interaction among biotic components-

  • Plants and animals depend on each other for various needs. In nature, plants, animals, scavengers and decomposers are interconnected.
  • Plants (producers) utilize sun’s energy and manufacture their own food through photosynthesis. As plants can  produce their own food therefore they are known as producers.
  • Herbivores (primary consumers) like rabbit and deer feed on plants. As these organisms cannot prepare there own food, therefore they are called as heterotrophs. They obtain their food directly from plants so they are known as primary producers.
  • Carnivores (secondary consumers) like tiger and lion feed on the herbivores. They thus get their food indirectly from plant. They are called as secondary consumers.
  • Omnivores like human beings and bear feed on both plants and flesh of other animals.
  • Scavengers and decomposers feed on dead plants and animals and release the nutrients trapped inside their bodies into the soil.
  • As we can see above that every organism is dependent on other living organism. These interactions are important for the flow of energy in an ecosystem. There are different food chains of different organisms .These food chain shows us the interaction among the living organisms based on food.
